iPhone 10 features things you need to know
Apple unveiled new smartwatches, an Apple TV and the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus at a press event. But the showstopper was a premium device called iPhone X, with a starting price that would have once seemed laughable for a phone: $999.
Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, framed the device as being nothing short of "the future of the smartphone."
"The first iPhone revolutionized a decade of technology and changed the world in the process," Cook said on stage. "Now, ten years later, it is only fitting that we are here in this place on this day to reveal a product that will set the path for technology for the next decade."
No home button
The secret to getting that full bleed screen is doing away with the home button. Instead, users can swipe up from the bottom of the screen to return to the home screen or toggle between apps.
Face ID
Apple's other iPhones let you unlock the devices and many apps with your finger print. The iPhone X is offering something different: the ability to unlock by scanning and recognizing your face.
Edge-to-edge display
The front of the iPhone is all screen. Literally. The display covers the full face of the device, with the exception of a small sliver at the top for the camera. The screen measures 5.8-inches diagonally.
Animoji
Have you been feeling a hole in your heart because you can't send an animated panda emoji with your voice and facial gestures? Us neither, but soon you'll be able to anyway with the new animoji feature on iPhone X.
A11 Bionic chip with 64-bit architecture
A11 features an Apple-designed 64-bit ARMv8-A six-core CPU, with two high-performance cores at 2.39 GHz, called Monsoon, and four energy-efficient cores, called Mistral. The A11 uses a new second-generation performance controller, which permits the A11 to use all six cores simultaneously, unlike its predecessor the A10. The A11 also integrates an Apple-designed three-core graphics processing unit (GPU) with 30% faster graphics performance than the A10
